Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of July 30

Over the past 24 hours, more than 150 combat engagements have been recorded on the front line. The most intense fighting continues in the Pokrovsk direction, where Ukrainian forces have repelled numerous assaults and are holding their positions, according to the operational updates from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces continue to hold back Russian advances along the entire front line.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 159 combat engagements took place over the past day, July 30. The situation remains particularly difficult in the eastern regions, especially in the Pokrovsk direction, where a record number of attacks were recorded.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out 50 airstrikes, deploying 77 guided bombs. In addition, they used 1,292 kamikaze drones and conducted 4,162 strikes on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.
Frontline updates
In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses 49 times. Fighting continues near Popiv Yar, Promin, Novoekonomichne, Boikivka, Rodynske, Pokrovsk, and several other settlements. Despite heavy troop concentrations, Ukrainian defenders are successfully holding their positions, repelling wave after wave of attacks.
The Lyman direction remains highly tense, with 18 assault attempts reported. Fierce battles are ongoing near Karpivka, Ridkodub, Yampilivka, and surrounding areas, as Russian forces attempt to advance toward Dronivka, Shandryholove, and Olhivka.
In the Novopavlivka direction, 22 attacks were recorded, all of them repelled by Ukrainian troops. Hostilities are active near Komar, Piddubne, Maliivka, and Shevchenko.
Fighting also remains intense in the Toretsk direction, where Russian forces launched 13 attacks. The heaviest pressure was concentrated near Toretsk, Oleksandro-Kalyneve, and Pleshchiivka. Ukrainian troops successfully repelled 12 of those assaults, with one engagement still ongoing.
In the northern sector, including the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, Ukrainian forces repelled 25 attacks, with 4 clashes still active. On the Southern Slobozhanskyi axis, 10 attacks were reported near Vovchansk, Krasne Pershe, and Kam’yanka, all of which were successfully repelled.
In the Kramatorsk and Kupiansk directions, Russian troops attempted 6 and 5 assaults, respectively, but made no gains. On the Siversk front, Ukrainian forces held off 8 separate attacks.
The situation in the south was comparatively less intense. Isolated attempts to advance were recorded in the Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovskyi directions, but all were unsuccessful for Russian forces.
Ukrainian military command emphasized that despite sustained pressure along multiple axes, defense lines are holding, and Ukrainian forces continue to inflict significant losses on Russian forces personnel and equipment.
On the night of July 31, Russia launched a massive drone attack on Kyiv. Preliminary reports indicate a drone strike hit a residential high-rise, setting the roof and several upper floors ablaze.
