Russia gearing up for long-term clash with NATO, ISW warns

Western security services believe that Russia is preparing for a prolonged confrontation with NATO. Moscow could launch military operations against member countries of the alliance by 2030, according to the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia is rapidly increasing its weapons production. According to intelligence estimates, Russia will produce 1,500 tanks, 3,000 armored vehicles, and 200 Iskander missiles in 2025.
Rutte noted that Moscow is cooperating with China, North Korea, and Iran, and is also rebuilding its forces using Chinese technologies.
“ISW assesses that Russia does not need to reconstitute its forces to pre-2022 levels before posing a threat to NATO states and could launch military operations against a NATO state before 2030,” analysts concluded.
Russia's threat to NATO countries
German intelligence warned that Russia is preparing for a possible large-scale war with NATO. Experts suggested that Vladimir Putin might try to achieve his goals by force.
According to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Russia - while ramping up its armament - could be ready to attack alliance countries within five years.
He warned that Moscow produces as many munitions in three months as the entire NATO bloc does in a year.
In light of the Russian threat, Rutte believes NATO countries must increase defense spending on security-related projects to 3.5% of GDP by 2032.
On June 9, he also stated that NATO countries plan to increase their air defense and anti-tank capabilities by 400%.
Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, commenting on Rutte’s statements, said that Russia is too weak to attack NATO. He expressed confidence that the war in Ukraine will not escalate into a global conflict.
