As of the evening of March 24, 541 enemy drones had been shot down or suppressed by electronic warfare systems.
Scale and geography of the attack
The enemy attacked in waves, starting on the evening of March 23. During the daytime of March 24 alone, more than 550 strike drones entered Ukraine’s airspace. The Russian forces launched not only the usual Shahed drones but also Gerbera-type drones and other UAV models.
The highest number of targets was recorded in the northern direction. Drones entered through Chernihiv and Sumy regions before spreading across the country. The following regions were affected:
- Kyiv and Poltava regions
- Mykolaiv and Vinnytsia regions
- Western regions of Ukraine, from Khmelnytskyi to Lviv
To repel the attack, the military deployed all available resources. Manned aviation, anti-drone systems, electronic warfare units (EW), and ground-based air defense systems were involved in destroying enemy targets.
Despite the defenders’ effective work, some consequences could not be avoided. The Air Force confirmed 15 hits in various parts of the country.
"Ukraine’s air defenders are doing everything possible to repel enemy air attacks as effectively as possible," the agency said.
A residential building in the center of Lviv was hit. UNESCO heritage was also affected, with a historic church catching fire.
Russia also struck the center of Ivano-Frankivsk, damaging two maternity hospitals and causing casualties.
