Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov said that Russia has agreed to accept the security guarantees the United States is proposing to Ukraine.

"Regarding security guarantees. In the previous talks, the Russian side directly said that the security guarantees the United States is offering Ukraine would be accepted—they have nowhere to go. What the US proposes, they openly say they will be forced to accept," Budanov said.
He added that these are "our guarantees," and Russia will have to respect them. As for the US, the Presidential Office head stressed that one may like or dislike them, but it is impossible not to respect them. Thus, there is some progress on the issue of security guarantees.
Summing up, Budanov said Ukraine would prefer security guarantees to come first, followed by everything else. However, how events unfold will be seen over time.
"Probably, we would all like security guarantees to come first, and then everything else. But how it will be, time will tell. I think security guarantees will be activated in parallel with the end of the war, if we reach that point. That's how I see it. I'm not saying this is the only position, but I think that's how it will be," he concluded.
US security guarantees for Ukraine
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that US President Donald Trump wants to sign an agreement on security guarantees and end the war in Ukraine during a grand ceremony. However, Kyiv insists that these guarantees should first be approved by the US Congress.
Earlier, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya noted that the future security agreement with the US must contain a clear definition of "guarantees" in both language versions and go through ratification in Congress.
He added that Ukraine aims to avoid past mistakes made during the signing of the Budapest Memorandum.
