Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has once again declared that the "demilitarization and denazification" of Ukraine are mandatory conditions for ending the war. At the same time, it’s important to understand that Russia’s real goal is the destruction of Ukraine as a state, according to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation.
“Lavrov once again talked about demilitarization and denazification, saying it's a condition for ending the war. The key thing to understand is that Russia’s goal - the destruction of Ukraine as a state, the seizure of Ukrainian territory, and the mass expulsion of us, Ukrainians, from our land - remains its top priority," Kovalenko wrote.
He emphasized that all the so-called peace initiatives without real signs, such as a ceasefire, and other diplomatic maneuvers, are merely tools Moscow uses to try to soften the consequences of the war for itself.
"The militarization of Ukraine is an inevitable result of Russian aggression and the main guarantee of Ukraine's survival as a state, alongside other forms of security. If the Kremlin’s rhetoric hasn’t changed, it means Russia and its regime have not yet suffered critical losses, and pressure must be increased," Kovalenko added.
According to him, destroying the enemy's oil refineries and energy infrastructure in response to its actions, increasing strike intensity with Western weapons, tightening sanctions, and cutting off China's economic support for Moscow are all necessary steps.
"Russia must become a territory of war; otherwise, it will bring the war to NATO countries. It is impossible to contain the threat posed by Russia’s current resource-based regime without destroying its capacity to finance the war," Kovalenko emphasized.
Russia's conditions for ending the war
Recently, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia wants to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible but insists on achieving the objectives set at the start of the full-scale invasion.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Russia could make compromises to end the war against Ukraine, but only if Moscow’s interests are taken into account.
He also said that the administration of US President Donald Trump understands the problems related to NATO.
Lavrov said that Washington cannot ignore the so-called referendums held in Russia-occupied territories of Ukraine.
Previously, Lavrov stated that Russia would not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine until the so-called root causes of the conflict were resolved.
