Romanian Prime Minister explains why country cannot shoot down Shaheds over Ukraine
Romania cannot shoot down Russian Shahed kamikaze drones over Ukraine, as the country would have to open fire on Ukrainian territory, and “this is not yet allowed”, according to Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
"To shoot them down, we will have to open fire over Ukrainian territory, and I believe that is not yet allowed. I haven't heard of any decision on this matter," said Ciolacu, commenting on the situation with Russian drones, fragments of which have been found on Romanian territory.
He noted that, according to aerial reconnaissance, Russian drones near the Romanian border in the Danube area are usually shot down by Ukraine.
“There is still no danger for Romanians in the area,” the Romanian Prime Minister added.
Ciolacu also mentioned that after previous incidents with fragments of Russian drones, security measures were taken and the patrolling of Romania's airspace was increased.
