Romania approves composition of new government
The Romanian Parliament today approved the composition of the new government of Marcel Ciolacu. After that, the ministers took the oath before the president, Digi 24 reports.
As the news agency reports, Ciolacu's government received 240 votes in favor, with a minimum of 233 required. This means the coalition controls about 54% of the seats in the legislature.
Earlier, three pro-European parties — the social democrats of Ciolacu, the center-right liberals, and the ethnic Hungarian party UDMR — agreed on the details of the coalition, which secured them a parliamentary majority.
It is also known that the new government will have 16 ministers. At the same time, the Social Democratic Party will hold eight portfolios, with most of its current ministers remaining in office.
Angel Tîlvăr has retained his position as Minister of Defense, while the Minister of Foreign Affairs is former journalist, writer, and diplomat Emil Hurezeanu.
