There are no signs that Russia wants to stop fighting in Ukraine. The Kremlin is using negotiations as a cover, said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, in an interview with Sky News.
The general noted that despite Russian President Vladimir Putin telling US President Donald Trump that Moscow is ready for talks, there are no signs of Russia slowing down its military actions.
"So we do everything so that if the enemy continues the war, and you can see that although we want peace, a fair peace, the enemy continues its offensive, using these peace talks as cover. There are no pauses, no delays in their operations. They keep pushing their troops forward to seize as much of our territory as possible under the cover of negotiations," Syrskyi said.
The commander emphasized that this is why Ukraine is forced to continue the war, defending its people, cities, and villages.
Peace talks
Currently, the US is discussing its peace plan with Ukraine and Russia. Following consultations with Ukrainian officials, the plan has been revised and now includes 20 points.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, visited Moscow and met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
After the meeting, the Kremlin stated that no compromises were reached, but Russia believes there are prospects for further negotiations.
Russia continues to insist that Ukraine hand over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions without a fight.
At the same time, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi stressed that such conditions do not constitute a just peace.
