At the meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff, the essence of US President Donald Trump’s plan was discussed, rather than specific proposals, according to Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov.

Ushakov stated that no compromises have been reached so far, and a meeting between the leaders of Russia and the US is not currently planned.

“We discussed not specific wordings or decisions, but the essence. The parties see huge prospects for cooperation,” he noted.

According to Ushakov, several variants of the settlement plan for Ukraine were discussed during the meeting, and in the five hours the talks lasted, the issue was discussed in detail.

He stated that Moscow had received four additional documents, in addition to Trump’s initial 28-point plan for resolving the situation in Ukraine.

When asked how the prospects for peace had changed after the talks, Ushakov shrugged and said, “They certainly haven’t receded.”

He added that there is still no compromise version of the plan regarding Ukraine, and that some American proposals are not acceptable to Russia. The meeting also addressed the territorial issue.

According to Ushakov, Putin stated that Moscow could agree with certain aspects of the US plan for Ukraine, while other points drew criticism from the Russian side.

Overall, the aide to the Russian dictator summarized, the conversation between Putin, Witkoff, and Kushner was useful and constructive.

Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, commenting on the results of the talks, limited himself to one word on X (formerly Twitter): productive.

Peace plan for Ukraine

US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Russian leader Vladimir Putin met to discuss the latest version of the peace plan for Ukraine.

Before this, there were lengthy negotiations between US and Ukrainian representatives, first in Geneva and then in Florida.

The talks involved special envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Jared Kushner (Trump’s son-in-law) on the US side, and from Ukraine: Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, Deputy Head of Military Intelligence Vadym Skibitsky, and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had visited Paris the day before and met with Emmanuel Macron, noted that the latest version of the peace plan looks better.
