Special envoy of the Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, has traveled to the United States for talks with the team of the American president, Reuters informs.
Sources told the agency that Dmitriev is meeting with members of US President Donald Trump’s administration to discuss a peace agreement on Ukraine and US–Russia economic cooperation.
Reuters notes that the visit comes ahead of a US decision on whether to extend eased sanctions on Russian oil, which are set to expire on April 11.
US–Russia talks
Last month, a meeting between delegations of the US and the aggressor country took place in Florida. The meeting was held without Ukraine — according to the official version, the Russian and American teams discussed various topics and agreed to stay in contact.
After this meeting, the US unexpectedly allowed Russia to sell part of its oil, while the Kremlin made a notable statement regarding sanctions.
The Russian leader's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, was present at these talks. His role, according to media and analysts, was to "win over" the United States.
In particular, Dmitriev had previously claimed that American businesses allegedly lost more than $300 billion due to anti-Russian sanctions, while the potential of joint US–Russia projects is estimated at $14 trillion.
Bloomberg also reported that Russia is attempting to win favor with the US president. To that end, the Kremlin has developed a strategy of economic rapprochement with the Trump administration, which includes a radical revision of the aggressor country’s financial policy.
