President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained why the world should not ease sanctions pressure on Russia at this time, according to Zelenskyy’s statement on Telegram.

The head of state spoke about the market reaction to the ceasefire in the Middle East, in particular, the drop in oil prices.

"This is at the same time the right signal regarding Russia — that in addition to our long-range sanctions, other tools will also work," his statement said.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that there are, in fact, no grounds to ease sanctions pressure, as this had previously been discussed as a way to alleviate problems in the global oil market.

"And if it is possible to unblock the Strait of Hormuz — which is a global necessity — Russian oil revenues should continue to decline. Oil fuels Russia’s war and makes Russia confident. And that is precisely why the Russians invested so heavily in supporting the Iranian regime, trying to drag out that war," the president explained.

He stated that "war is not needed by anyone" and stressed the importance of global powers drawing the "right security conclusions" from what has happened.

Crude oil prices sharply dropped below $100 per barrel after Donald Trump said the United States had agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran. This marked the largest one-day drop in oil prices since the Gulf War.

Overnight, just hours before the US ultimatum expired, President Donald Trump said he had agreed to a two-week truce with Iran in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

According to media reports, the first direct talks between Washington and Tehran since the start of the war are scheduled for Friday, April 10, in the capital of Pakistan. The US delegation is likely to be led by Vice President JD Vance.
