The press secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov stated that he does not know what US Vice President J.D. Vance meant when referring to a breakthrough in negotiations on Ukraine, according to Russian media.
"I don’t exactly, honestly, have information on what is meant. But in the public sphere, it’s hardly possible to address such a complex issue. On the other hand, in time, we will probably receive some clarifications," Peskov said.

On December 22, Vance reported that, following consultations between the US and Russia in Miami, a breakthrough in negotiations on Ukraine had been recorded. According to him, this breakthrough lies in the fact that all issues have been "brought to the surface."
He added that, in private conversations, the Ukrainian authorities allegedly acknowledge that they will ultimately lose Donetsk. Vance also said that this territorial concession represents a significant delay in the negotiations.
Negotiations in the US
New talks on ending the war in Ukraine took place in Miami, Florida, on Friday, December 19. Ukrainian and European envoys met with their American counterparts and agreed to resume contacts in the near future.
On Saturday, December 20, Russian representative Kirill Dmitriev arrived in Miami. He held talks with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
After the meeting, Dmitriev stated that the talks were "constructive."
As a result of the negotiations between Ukraine and the US, the initial version of the peace plan was reduced from 28 points to 20. Its contents remain unknown. Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a final version of the peace plan does not yet exist, as it has not been agreed upon.
