Kremlin head Vladimir Putin says Russia is ready for peace talks with Ukraine, but only "based on realities on the ground."

According to the Russian president, the proposals Moscow is currently receiving are unacceptable.

"At the same time, the proposals being brought to us are sometimes, I would say, rather exotic and unacceptable. We are always ready for dialogue, but only based on the realities on the ground," Putin said.

When asked what he meant by "exotic proposals," he declined to explain but said such proposals had been made before.

"You know, I would not like to talk about this now or go into details, because this is a probing process concerning various areas of possible agreements. They have been raised in one form or another before, but now they are being presented differently in the current situation. But it is still too early to get ahead of ourselves and talk about what could form the basis of possible agreements," Putin concluded.

Ceasefire proposals

As previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly publicly called on Russia to stop the fighting along the front line. However, the Kremlin has regularly rejected the idea and continued to insist that Ukrainian forces withdraw from Donbas, while at times also suggesting that they should withdraw from the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

In July, media reports also said that Ukraine and the United States had discussed a proposal for an "air ceasefire," meaning an end to mutual missile and drone strikes. However, the Kremlin said it was too early to comment on those reports.

In addition, a week ago, media reports emerged that Ukraine had sent Russia a proposal to halt attacks on civilian targets in the Black Sea. Moscow has not responded.
