Power outages hit Russian-occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions: Details

In the temporarily occupied areas of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, power outages have been reported following a strike by attack drones, according to Russian Telegram channels.
Reports online indicate that an electrical substation in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol was targeted in the attack. According to the Telegram channel Shot, the entire occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region has been left without power.
The so-called governor of the areas in the Zaporizhzhia region temporarily controlled by Russian forces, Yevgeny Balitsky, stated that high-voltage equipment in the northwestern part of the region was damaged due to the strikes. As a result, there is no electricity throughout the entire area.
According to him, healthcare facilities have been switched to backup power sources.
Additionally, Russian Telegram channels report power outages in parts of the Kherson region as well. Debris from downed drones reportedly damaged a substation in the Henichesk district of Kherson region and another in the Melitopol district of Zaporizhzhia region.
The Russian-installed governor of the temporarily occupied Kherson region, Volodymyr Saldo, said that 150 settlements in the Henichesk, Novotroitske, Ivanivka, and Nyzhni Sirohozy districts have been left without electricity.
“That’s over 104,000 people and 44 socially significant facilities. All critical infrastructure has been connected to backup power sources,” he stated.
Destruction of Russian strategic aviation
On Sunday, June 1, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a large-scale operation on Russian territory called Spiderweb.
Combat drones targeted five airfields that hosted Russian strategic aviation aircraft - Olenya, Belaya, Dyagilevo, Ivanovo, and Voskresensk.
According to the SBU, the operation resulted in the destruction and severe damage of 41 aircraft, including Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, Tu-160 bombers, as well as A-50 airborne early warning and control planes.
Thanks to this attack, 34% of Russia’s strategic aviation fleet was destroyed, with total damages estimated at $2 billion.
Additionally, drones inflicted damage on a base for Russian nuclear submarines in the city of Severomorsk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hinted at the possibility of similar future operations to undermine Russia’s arrogance during peace negotiations.
