Poland to choose new Prime Minister on December 11
On Monday, December 11, the Polish Sejm will hold a vote of confidence in the government and elect a new prime minister for the country, according to PAP.
Tomorrow, Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki will deliver a report, after which there will be a vote of confidence in his government. If the Sejm votes against his approval, the government will be dismissed, and Donald Tusk will become the new prime minister.
At the end of November, Polish President Andrzej Duda swore in the new government of Mateusz Morawiecki, formed after parliamentary elections as part of the so-called constitutional first step.
According to the information, Morawiecki's report in the Polish Sejm is scheduled for 10:00 Warsaw time (11:00 Kyiv time), and the parliamentary vote on the vote of confidence in the government is set for 15:00 (16:00 Kyiv time).
At the moment, the most likely scenario is that Morawiecki's government does not receive a vote of confidence and resigns, and the Polish Sejm instructs the leader of the parliamentary majority, Donald Tusk, to form a new government.
Elections in Poland
Parliamentary elections in Poland took place on October 15, resulting in the determination of 460 members of the Sejm. The opposition secured a majority, led by the Civic Platform under the leadership of former President of the European Council Donald Tusk, along with the alliance Third Way and the Left Party. In November, pro-European parties in Poland reached an agreement to form a coalition.
On December 1, Polish President Andrzej Duda promised not to delay the process of appointing a government from the opposition if the Morawiecki cabinet fails to gain a vote of confidence.
The leading candidate for the position of prime minister, Donald Tusk, expects that the vote for the government from the opposition will also take place on December 11, and on December 13, he will be sworn in.
