Poland-Ukraine border: One of checkpoints unblocked, negotiations are in progress
The blockade at the Shehyni-Medyka border crossing has been suspended. The government of Poland is engaged in negotiations, according to the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy Michał Kołodziejczak.
"The agrarian protest at Medyka has been suspended. Since early morning, discussions have taken place with the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Czesław Siekierski, and the leaders of the protesting farmers. The protest has been suspended, and the three main demands will enter the implementation phase as quickly as possible," wrote Kolodziejczak.
The Deputy Minister added that further decisions will be discussed at the negotiating table after the New Year.
Polish border blockade
Since November 6, Polish carriers have initiated strikes at the border with Ukraine, intending to continue the action until the beginning of January 2024. Several routes were blocked during the protest, allowing no more than one truck in and out per hour. Additionally, the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing was later blocked.
Yesterday, on December 22, Ukrainian and Polish officials agreed on an action plan to unblock the border crossings. Polish representatives announced their intention to open the border by the end of the year.
As of the morning of December 23, more than 4,000 trucks are reported to be waiting in line.
