Poland wants to profit from Ukraine's postwar recovery, says Tusk

Poland plans to modernize the infrastructure of the Slawków logistics hub. This will increase cargo handling capacity toward Ukraine and become a golden deal for Warsaw, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, according to Polskie Radio.
"I will say without exaggeration that here in Slawków, in Silesia, we will have the largest logistics center of its kind in Europe. It's not just about breaking records (...) it will also be a golden deal for Poland," Tusk stated.
According to him, Poland wants to help Ukraine with its reconstruction — and also profit from it.
"There's nothing wrong with saying this: we want to make big money for Poland from Ukraine's reconstruction. We want to help, but we also want to profit — and that's exactly why this special hub is needed. (...) It shouldn't be like it was before — when everyone was involved, including Poland (I'm referring to the war in Iraq), and then the biggest players profited from the rebuilding, while Poland was left with nothing," he explained.
In addition, Tusk believes that the Slawków euroterminal, located in southwestern Poland, will become a transshipment center for goods from Asia and China after Russia's war against Ukraine ends.
"This is a major logistics project — the largest dry port. We're now entering the second stage of investment to expand this euroterminal. There are still several more phases ahead — the third, fourth, and fifth. The total value of the project exceeds one billion euros," said Wojciech Balczun, the CEO of the Industrial Development Agency.
Ukraine reconstruction conferences
Last fall, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the Ukraine Recovery Conference, which will be held in Rome on July 10-11, 2025.
Earlier, the World Bank estimated Ukraine's post-invasion recovery needs at $411 billion, which is higher than the previous estimate of $349 billion released in September 2022. This figure continues to change due to the ongoing Russian invasion.
