The administration of US President Donald Trump is still holding talks with Russia and Ukraine to ensure a durable peace based on reliable security guarantees, starting with a strong Ukraine and Europe, the Pentagon website reports.
US Assistant Secretary of Defense Daniel Zimmerman voiced information about talks with both sides and spoke about reliable security guarantees for Kyiv.
According to him, Moscow still has a large and diverse nuclear arsenal, as well as capable land, air, and naval forces. This allows Russia to maintain the potential to threaten US interests.
At the same time, the general emphasized that the global security situation is becoming increasingly complex. In particular, cooperation between Russia, North Korea, Iran, and China is growing, increasing risks in several regions of the world at once.
According to him, support from these countries helps Russia continue the war against Ukraine. This includes, in particular, the supply of weapons, technologies, and economic assistance.
The United States emphasizes that such interaction creates new challenges for NATO and requires increased attention from allies.
Security guarantees situation
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that security guarantees for Ukraine should include, in particular, accession to the European Union, as well as the creation of a long-term mechanism to deter Russia.
He also insisted on the presence of foreign troops in Ukraine, which not all in the EU agreed to, and the United States immediately said it would not do so.
In Russia, there were strong protests against the presence of foreign troops in Ukraine.
However, at the end of February, Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov stated that the Russians agreed to accept the security guarantees proposed by the United States to Ukraine.
