Hungary does not plan to leave the EU, but the union's leadership could face disintegration in 2026, potentially leading to its collapse, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated.
"The European Union will fall apart on its own - disintegration will occur, chaos will emerge in its leadership," Orbán said.
At the same time, he noted that this process could be halted through restructuring, but that is not happening because the countries involved are preoccupied with their problems.
Orbán also commented on the possibility of Hungary leaving the EU, referring to the UK's example. He described London's decision as "brave," but bad for Central Europe.
The Hungarian Prime Minister added that Hungary does not possess nuclear weapons and is not large enough to leave the union, making such a move unwise.
Orbán also said he "would not give money to Ukraine," claiming Ukrainians would not repay it.
Orbán's previous statements
Earlier, Orbán said that sanctions against Russia could allegedly be lifted as early as 2027. He also expects the war in Ukraine to end by 2027, after which, in his view, sanctions on Russia would be removed.
Previously, the Hungarian prime minister also suggested that in 2026, the US could make peace with Russia while ignoring both Ukraine and Europe. According to him, Hungary plans to benefit significantly from the normalization of relations between the US and Russia, as such a scenario would be "more advantageous" for them.
In addition, Orbán has previously urged citizens to support his party in the 2026 parliamentary elections, saying this is necessary to ensure that the country "does not get dragged into a war."
