Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar condemned the incident involving a Russian drone in Romania. At the same time, former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán emphasized the need for Hungary's "neutrality," The Guardian reports.

In particular, Péter Magyar "condemned in the strongest terms" the drone incident in Romania, expressing Hungary's solidarity with the Romanian people.

"Yesterday’s Russian drone attack once again highlights that the unity of Europe and NATO is more important today than ever before," he stressed.

At the same time, his predecessor also issued a public statement. Viktor Orbán called for maintaining a policy of "neutrality" in response to Russian aggression.

"This incident reinforces the fact that the war poses a direct threat to neighbouring countries," he said.

Hungary's former prime minister urged the new administration in Budapest to "refrain from taking any steps towards the pro-war policy advocated by parts of Europe."

At the same time, Orbán did not express a single word of condemnation or criticism toward Russia.

Russian drone strike on Romania

During another Russian attack on Ukraine on the night of May 29, one of the enemy drones entered Romanian territory and crashed into the roof of an apartment building in Galați.

As a result of the strike, a fire broke out in an apartment on the 10th floor. Two people were injured and received medical assistance at the scene. Rescue workers quickly extinguished the fire.

Romania's Ministry of National Defense stated that the building was struck by a Russian Geran-2 drone.

According to Romanian military officials, the drone could not be intercepted due to the extremely short response time. Brigadier General Gheorghe Maxim specified that only four minutes passed between the detection of the target and the drone's impact.

NATO has already responded to the incident, condemning the Russian drone strike on a residential building in Romania, a member state of the Alliance.

Slovakia also expressed support for Romania following the Russian drone attack. At the same time, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico called for avoiding "provocative statements."
