NATO responds after Russian drone hits apartment building in Romania

NATO spokesperson Allison Hart has responded to the crash of a Russian drone into a high-rise building in Romania. The country is a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
NATO spokesperson Allison Hart emphasizes that the Alliance’s Secretary General is in contact with Romanian authorities.
"We condemn Russia’s recklessness, and NATO will continue to strengthen our defences against all threats, including drones," she writes.
Drone Crashes into 10th Floor
On the night of May 28–29, Russia again launched drone strikes against Ukrainian civilian and infrastructure targets near the river border with Romania. One of the drones crossed the border and crashed into the roof of an apartment building in the city of Galați.
The impact caused a fire in an apartment on the 10th floor. Two people were injured and received medical attention on the scene. Rescue workers managed to extinguish the fire quickly.
What Romania did
The country’s radars tracked the drones approaching Romanian airspace. At 1:19 a.m., two F-16 fighter jets and an IAR 330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled.
Romanian Ministry of Defense says the pilots were authorized to down targets throughout the entire alert period.
This is not the only Russian drone that attacked Romania today. A drone without an explosive payload was detected in Maramureș County, local broadcaster TVR reported.
According to the report, the Russian drone was large; its wingspan reached three meters.
Meanwhile, the US called Russia’s massive strikes a "barbaric escalation" at the UN Security Council and urged Moscow to engage in negotiations. As reported by RBC-Ukraine, US Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Tammy Bruce noted that such attacks were unacceptable and abhorrent.
