In Russia's Volgograd, explosions were heard overnight on December 26. Preliminary reports indicate that the local oil refinery, Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka, was hit again and a fire broke out there, Russian media report.

In particular, local Volgograd channels wrote that at least 20 explosions were heard in the Krasnoarmeysky district of the city, after which a significant fire broke out near the oil refinery.

At the same time, Volgograd region Governor Andrey Bocharov said that units of Russia's air defense forces had allegedly "repelled" a drone attack overnight. According to "official data," there were reportedly no casualties or damage to facilities.

Separately, Russia's Ministry of Defense said that 34 drones were allegedly shot down over the region overnight. Rosaviatsiya also introduced the Carpet plan at Volgograd airport — due to the UAV threat, the airport was not operating for more than six hours.

Explosions were heard overnight in Volgograd, prompting residents to complain and discuss them actively on social media. The region's governor, Andrey Bocharov, initially even reported a fire at the refinery site.

The Volgograd oil refinery was attacked on November 15, when a hit on the facility was recorded. Before that, after an attack on November 6, Bocharov confirmed a fire near the refinery in Volgograd. In August this year, Ukraine's General Staff also reported attacks on the Volgograd refinery, which resulted in major fires.

The refinery processes more than 15 million tons of oil annually, accounting for nearly 6% of Russia's total oil refining capacity. The plant is considered one of the largest in the country.
