Russian attacks across Ukraine continue overnight, hitting civilians and critical infrastructure despite an alleged "weeklong truce," Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine Katarina Mathernova reported.

The Ambassador emphasized that there is no ceasefire and that Russia is not honoring any agreements.

She said that Russian forces launched 90 attack drones across Ukraine during the night.

In Ukraine's Dnipro city, a UAV struck a private home, killing two civilians. In Konotop in the Sumy region, railway infrastructure was damaged, while explosions were reported in several other cities.

"Does this look like a truce? Explosions, civilian deaths, destroyed energy facilities, and transport infrastructure. Today's attack is further proof that Russia does not respect agreements," Mathernova said.

She added that Ukraine is currently facing severe cold, with many apartment buildings in Kyiv still without heating following previous attacks on energy infrastructure. Most Ukrainians are also living with prolonged power outages.

"The democratic world cannot turn a blind eye to this," the Ambassador stressed.

Energy truce

On the morning of January 29, reports began circulating online about a supposed halt to Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. According to the messages, Russian forces were allegedly forbidden from attacking facilities in Kyiv city and region, and other parts of the country.

At the same time, some reports suggested that the moratorium could be mutual and last until February 3, apparently linked to the next round of Ukraine–Russia negotiations scheduled for February 1.

Later that evening, US President Donald Trump said he had personally contacted Russian President Vladimir Putin to request a temporary suspension of strikes on Ukrainian cities during the severe cold. Trump claimed that Putin had agreed to the pause.

The information was later confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who acknowledged the so-called energy truce with Russia.
