NATO defense ministers to meet in Brussels: Key topics revealed

Tomorrow, October 15, NATO defense ministers will meet in Brussels. They will discuss strengthening NATO's deterrence and defense, based on the decisions made at the summit in The Hague, as well as further support for Ukraine, according to a NATO official.
This meeting of NATO ministers will be the first since the leaders’ summit in The Hague in June this year.
They will discuss progress in implementing NATO's new goals to ensure that armed forces are properly equipped and ready to defend citizens.
Ministers will also assess the collective deterrence and defense posture and the measures taken to further reinforce it. They will exchange views on the implementation of NATO missions and operations, including Eastern Sentry, Baltic Sentry, KFOR, and the NATO Mission in Iraq.
In addition, they will discuss continued support for Ukraine, whose security is closely linked to NATO's own. This issue will be addressed during the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council with the participation of Ukraine's Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.
The NATO official emphasized the ongoing efforts to end the war against Ukraine and achieve a just and lasting peace.
According to him, it is extremely important that Ukraine receives the urgent military assistance needed for its defense today and for deterring future aggression.
NATO plays a key role in coordinating this support, including through its command in Wiesbaden (the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine program, NSATU) and through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL).
After the NATO defense ministers’ meeting at NATO Headquarters, a session of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, organized by Germany and the United Kingdom, will take place.
On Wednesday, October 15, a Ramstein meeting and a NATO-Ukraine Council session will be held, with participation from defense ministers of several countries.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the top priority during the Ramstein meeting will be strengthening Ukraine's air defense.
