The war between Russia and Ukraine will eventually end through negotiations. Ukraine will have protection from its partners after any ceasefire agreement, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said during his speech at the US Military Academy West Point.

Rutte said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin "wants all." He added that the Kremlin likely understands this is impossible. Therefore, the war will eventually end with negotiations.

"Not every conflict ends with negotiation… But I think in the Ukraine case, it is most likely it will end through negotiations," he said.

According to Rutte, Ukraine will be protected after a peace agreement or a long-term ceasefire is reached.

"But Zelenskyy needs to know that his country, going forward, after a peace deal or a long-term ceasefire, is protected," promised the NATO Secretary General.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb recently said the military component of security guarantees for Ukraine is practically ready. Partners will next focus on the political component.

During his speech at the UN General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that only strong alliances and weapons can guarantee security. This is why Ukraine places such importance on security guarantees — without force, international law currently does not work.
