Zelenskyy: There are no security guarantees except friends and weapons

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy says at the UN General Assembly debate that only strong friends and weapons can stop the aggressor.
“Today, no one but ourselves can guarantee security. Only strong alliances, only strong partners, and only our own weapons... If a nation wants peace, it still has to work on weapons,” he stressed.
Zelenskyy notes that currently, neither international law nor cooperation, but weapons determine who survives. He added that international law does not work fully unless “you have powerful friends who are truly willing to stand up for it, and even that does not work without weapons.”
"There are no security guarantees except friends and weapons. No Ukrainian chose this kind of reality," the Ukrainian leader said.
“Ukrainians are peaceful people, but they are people who want to live. To live freely in their own independent country... But even during bloodshed, there isn't a single international institution that can truly stop it,” he stressed.
Zelenskyy will meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and will also take part in the Fifth Summit of the International Crimea Platform.
The Ukrainian leader is also scheduled to hold talks with King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and President Ahmed al-Sharaa of Syria.
Zelenskyy will hold meetings with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, members of the US Senate, and the House of Representatives.
He will also meet with representatives of Jewish organizations in the US, leaders of leading American companies, and the Ukrainian community in the US.
