Meloni urges 'bridge buildings' to prevent Western divide

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has emphasized the need for "bridge building" to help prevent a division within the Western alliance, according to Sky News.
Upon arriving at the Ukraine Summit and meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Meloni made this statement.
"I think it is very, very important that we avoid the risk that the West divides. I think on this, the UK and Italy can play an important role in bridge building," she said while greeting Starmer.
She added that if the West becomes divided, it would "make us all weaker."
For his part, Starmer said he was "very much looking forward to having the opportunity to talk to you about the important issues that face us" with Meloni.
"We have a very similar mindset, so I'm very much looking forward to hearing your view about these matters," the British Prime Minister added.
Meloni also thanked Starmer for organizing the Ukraine summit.
Ukraine summit in London
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is organizing a Ukraine summit on Sunday, March 2. Among those attending the event is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
However, the Baltic states were not invited to the summit. Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia were excluded and have already expressed their dissatisfaction with the UK’s decision not to invite their leaders to the Ukraine summit.
This summit follows a series of meetings in Paris hosted last week by French President Emmanuel Macron.
