US First Lady Melania Trump helped to return six Ukrainian children abducted by Russian forces from Ukraine, according to the White House.
"Reunifying children with their loved ones in this region of the world remains one of the most important global issues today. I am encouraged that both sides remain committed to ongoing cooperation, raising the safety and well-being of children above this abhorrent war," the US First Lady said.
The statement said a seventh Ukrainian child abducted by Russia is expected to return home later, at the end of April.
The White House also noted that the US President’s wife and her representative continue to work with Ukraine and Russia to identify and reunite people displaced as a result of the full-scale war.
Return of children from Russia
In August 2025, Melania Trump wrote a letter to Vladimir Putin, calling for the return of Ukrainian children taken by Russian authorities. The letter was delivered to the Russian leader by Donald Trump ahead of a summit in Alaska.
On February 12, Melania Trump announced the successful completion of another phase of efforts to return Ukrainian children deported to Russia since the start of the full-scale war. This marked the third successful family reunification mission.
In addition, in December 2025, the US First Lady said that, as part of humanitarian efforts between Ukraine and Russia, seven abducted Ukrainian children had been able to return home.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently said that 2,000 Ukrainian minors have already been brought back home from Russian-controlled territories.
