Seven Ukrainian children have been returned to their homeland from Russia, with the assistance of US First Lady Melania Trump, according to the White House press service.

The White House noted that six boys and one girl were returned to their families in Ukraine.

Melania Trump welcomed the development, emphasizing that her commitment to ensuring the safe return of children to their families in Ukraine remains steadfast.

"I commend the leadership and persistent diplomacy of Russia and Ukraine in the pursuit of the reunification of children and families. Their bridge-building has created a tangible collaborative environment — an anchor for optimism. This cooperation will continue to drive the process forward through the next phase," she added.

According to the First Lady, she and her representatives provided humanitarian support from the US to improve the outcomes of the family reunification initiative.

"My hope is that, ultimately, our collective efforts will lead to broader regional stability," she said.

Melania Trump’s letter to Putin

In July, US First Lady Melania Trump wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, urging him to protect Ukrainian children who had been deported to Russia.

Through this initiative, she opened a channel of communication with the Kremlin leader to facilitate the return of the children to Ukraine.

Specifically, Moscow provided the US First Lady with information on the Ukrainian children who had already been returned.

In September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that 1,625 children had been returned to Ukraine from Russia.
