US First Lady Melania Trump managed on February 12 to bring home an unspecified number of Ukrainian children who had been taken to Russia after the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to the White House website.
It is noted that this is already the third time Melania Trump has managed to return children who were taken from Ukraine by Russian forces. Commenting on the development, the US First Lady said that Ukraine and Russia "are dedicated to bringing back the children."
"Although all parties are cooperating and our communications remain robust, I urge Russia and Ukraine to intensify their efforts to ensure the safe return of every child to their families and guardians," she said.
According to Melania Trump, negotiations are ongoing regarding the return of other children. She announced further progress in this matter.
"Today marks the third reunification since I have been working strategically with both nations. I have no doubt more progress will come," she added.
On February 5, it became known that Melania Trump continues to maintain contacts with the team of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the return of Ukrainian children taken to Russia. At the time, she said that success would be achieved soon.
Back in July, Melania Trump wrote a letter to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, calling on him to protect Ukrainian children who had been deported to Russia. She later unexpectedly received a response from Putin to her letter. Since then, they have maintained an "open channel of communication."
Moscow provided the US First Lady with information about Ukrainian children who have already been returned. In December 2025, with Melania Trump’s assistance, seven Ukrainian children were brought back from Russia.
