French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Ukraine must engage in "realistic discussions" on territorial issues, the BFMTV reports.

During the annual meeting of French ambassadors, Macron urged Ukrainians to "hold realistic discussions on territorial issues." According to him, "only they can lead these discussions" to resolve the conflict caused by Russia's invasion in 2022.

"The United States must help us change the nature of the situation and convince Russia to come to the negotiating table. At the same time, Europeans will need to 'build security guarantees' for Ukraine, 'which will be their primary duty'," Macron said.

The French leader also believes that despite the new US President Donald Trump's promises, "there will be no quick and easy solution in Ukraine under current circumstances."

"The new American President knows himself that the United States has no chance of winning anything if Ukraine loses," Macron added.

The French President emphasized that Ukraine's capitulation cannot benefit Europeans or Americans. He also warned that trust in the West would be "undermined" if a "compromise" is accepted out of "war fatigue."

Security guarantees for Ukraine

Earlier, we reported that Donald Trump stated he wanted to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table on his first day in office as President of the United States.

In response, Zelenskyy pointed out that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not want negotiations. The Ukrainian President stressed that Putin will continue to find reasons to avoid dialogue unless his conditions are accepted.

Zelenskyy also noted that Trump could be the first leader to visit Ukraine by plane since Russia's full-scale invasion.
