Luxembourg to allocate €10 million each for Ukraine's energy and defense sectors

This year, Luxembourg will contribute 10 million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. The country will allocate the same amount to Ukraine's defense sector, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing a joint press conference of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha with Luxembourg’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, Xavier Bettel and Yuriko Backes.
"An important practical result of today’s visit is Luxembourg's decision to allocate 10 million euros in 2025 to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund," said Sybiha.
According to Ukraine's Minister, the energy fund's resources will be directed toward critical needs - from the purchase of equipment and fuel to the modernization of energy infrastructure.
“It is extremely important for us to show our support for you, that we support the state, Ukrainian defense, and that we will stand together in defending the freedom and strength of our countries,” noted Luxembourg's Defense Minister.
Yuriko Backes recalled that Luxembourg had provided significant support to Ukraine's defense sector during the war with Russia.
“This year, on my recommendation, a portion of the budget was particularly allocated for aid, humanitarian aid for Ukraine - amounting to 80 million euros. And I'm pleased to announce that we now also have an additional 10 million for the defense sector,” added Backes
Aid to Ukraine from Luxembourg
Ukraine recently received a shipment of equipment worth nearly 2 million euros from the so-called IT coalition. The aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was funded by Luxembourg and Iceland.
Last year, Luxembourg also joined the Drone Coalition initiative, which was created to develop industrial production of FPV drones in Ukraine and the West.
In July of last year, Ukraine and Luxembourg signed a bilateral agreement on security guarantees. The signing took place in Washington.
The agreement states that Luxembourg will provide military support to Ukraine in land, air, and cyber-electromagnetic domains. Luxembourg will continue to provide long-term support in equipping and training, including the preparation of instructors and training of Ukraine's security and defense forces within the framework of the EU Mission.
