Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel sharply criticized Russia's position and called for tougher sanctions against the aggressor country, the head of Luxembourg's Foreign Ministry said during his visit to Odesa.

Bettel said that, putting himself in the place of a Ukrainian, he could not accept the idea of giving up territory simply because Russia demanded it. He expressed doubt that Moscow truly wanted a ceasefire, stressing that he saw no serious intention on Russia's part to stop the war.

The Luxembourg foreign minister underlined that the international community should increase pressure on Russia and clearly demonstrate the impact of sanctions from the United States and other countries. He emphasized that Russia must have no alternative other than peace.

Aid to Ukraine from Luxembourg

Today Ukraine, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg launched a new format of cooperation Ukraine–Benelux.

Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that this format reflects Ukraine's new place in the world and an equal approach in international diplomacy.

As is known, Luxembourg continues to actively support Ukraine. The country increased its contribution to the Energy Support Fund to 12 million euros, and together with Iceland financed the supply of equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine worth almost 2 million euros within the IT Coalition.

In addition, Luxembourg is a participant in the Drone Coalition, which is developing the production of FPV drones in Ukraine and abroad.

In July last year, Kyiv and Luxembourg signed a bilateral security agreement that provides for military support to Ukraine on land, in the air and in cyberspace.
