Kyiv under fire: Air defense forces active
Explosions are heard in Kyiv. Air defense forces are working, states the head of Kyiv military administration, Serhii Popko.
"Air defense is operating in the capital. Stay in shelters until the air raid is over!" the message reads.
Debris fell in two districts of the capital (updated 3:37 a.m.)
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that explosions were heard in the capital. In particular, a fragment of a UAV is burning in the Desnianskyi district in an open area. All services are at the scene.
The KCMA added that in the Desnianskyi district, preliminary, there is a fire in a residential area. Units of the State Emergency Service and the police are on their way to the scene. Probable damage and the presence of victims are being clarified.
There are also reports of possible falling debris in the Holosiivskyi district of the capital.
Night attack by Russian drones
On the night of January 2, Russia launched several dozen attack drones at Ukraine. An air alert was declared in Kyiv and a number of regions, and air defense forces are working.
On New Year's Eve, Russian troops used a record number of Shahed-type attack drones - 90 units - to attack Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said that they managed to shoot down 87 drones.
However, the attack still caused destruction and casualties. In particular, a teenager was killed in Odesa, and in Lviv, the Roman Shukhevych Museum burned to the ground, and the university where Stepan Bandera studied caught fire.
