Kyiv rescue operation ends after Russian strike: Final death toll revealed

A search and rescue operation has been completed in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv following Russia’s strike on May 14. According to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, 24 people were killed, and 48 were injured.
According to Klymenko, the search and rescue operation lasted over 28 hours.
Rescuers cleared over 3,000 cubic meters of the building’s rubble. The Russians practically destroyed an entire building entrance with a missile.
Currently, the deaths of 24 people have been confirmed, including 3 children. Another 48 people were injured.
Nearly 400 people received assistance from psychologists from the State Emergency Service and the National Police, who provided counseling and support to the victims and their loved ones at the scene of the tragedy.

State Emergency Service units have begun emergency recovery operations.
Today, Kyiv has declared a Day of Mourning for those killed in yesterday’s massive Russian attack.
Meanwhile, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that over 50 people were injured. Of them, 24 are currently hospitalized.
12, 15, and 17-year-old children are among the killed.
"A Russia like this can never be normalized – a Russia that deliberately destroys lives and hopes to remain unpunished. Pressure is needed," emphasizes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Massive Russian attack on Kyiv
On the night of May 14, Russian forces carried out one of the most powerful airstrikes on Kyiv. Several districts of the city were hit, but the worst damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi district.
There, a Russian missile struck a nine-story residential building directly, leading to the destruction of one of the building’s entrances. 24 people are known to have been killed, including children, and more than 40 were injured.
According to preliminary reports, the Russians struck a residential building in Kyiv with a Kh-101 missile straight off the production line.
The Patrol Police released a video showing the first moments after the Russian strike, in which law enforcement officers and residents are rescuing the wounded from the damaged homes.
