Kyiv region death toll rises after Russian attack
The number of victims in the Kyiv region has risen to two following the Russian attack on January 3. A young woman died in hospital, according to a statement from acting head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk.
"Unfortunately, the young woman who was injured when debris from a downed enemy target fell during yesterday's mass drone attack on the Kyiv region has died. The woman, born in 2002, suffered a serious stomach wound," he said.
According to Kalashnyk, doctors fought to save her life for nearly 24 hours, but the injuries were too severe.
What we know about the condition of other victims
- Another victim, a man born in 1953, who was injured in the back last night, is in intensive care.
- A young man, who suffered a knee injury, is under medical supervision. His life is not in danger.
Drone attack on Kyiv region
Russian forces launched 93 drones at Ukraine on the night of January 3. Air defense was only able to intercept one-third of them. Meanwhile, explosions were heard in Kyiv, and in the Kyiv region, the military actively shot down drones.
Later, it became known that four people were injured, and one person died in the Kyiv region due to the Russian attack. The deceased, a truck driver, died on the spot. Additionally, drone fragments fell on a residential building.
A woman in Kyiv was also injured during the drone attack. Defense forces destroyed most of the enemy drones before they reached Kyiv, but debris was reported to have fallen in the Holosiivskyi and Darnytskyi districts.
