At first, Russia declared the “exhaustion of momentum” for ending the war against Ukraine. However, the Kremlin changed its mind and has now called this statement fundamentally incorrect, according to the assistant to the Russian leader, Yury Ushakov.

"Statements about the ‘exhaustion of the Anchorage momentum’ for the settlement of the war in Ukraine are fundamentally incorrect. Contacts between representatives of the administrations of the presidents of Russia and the United States are ongoing," said Putin’s assistant.

Ushakov also claims that the agreements reached between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, during the meeting in Alaska, "are not to everyone’s liking."

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on October 7 described the dialogue between the US and Russia as "depressed," noting that although the conversations continue, "no serious decisions have been made yet."

What came before

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov declared the "exhaustion of momentum" regarding the settlement of the war against Ukraine, which appeared after the meeting between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump in Alaska.

Meeting in Alaska

As is known, on August 15, US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin held a meeting at the Elmendorf Air Base near Anchorage, Alaska.

After that, the US and Ukraine initiated negotiations with Russia at the level of leaders. However, Putin effectively refused the meeting, in particular by suggesting that Volodymyr Zelenskyy come to Moscow.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that Russia is not interested in peace, is evading negotiations at the highest level, and is sending corresponding signals.
