King of the United Kingdom Charles III, during his visit to Washington, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, addressed the US Congress. He called for continued support for Ukraine amid threats from Donald Trump and touched on NATO and global warming, reports The Independent.

King Charles gave a clear response to Trump in Congress and stated that the United States remains the "heart" of NATO, and any attempts to weaken the Alliance, which Trump hints at, put the security of the entire civilized world at risk.

The monarch emphasized the exceptional role of the American military. He recalled that the security of Europe and North America is inextricably linked to the strength of the United States. These are not just words, but the foundation of the survival of democracies.

"From the depths of the Atlantic to the disastrously melting ice caps of the Arctic, the commitment and expertise of the United States Armed Forces and its allies lie at the heart of NATO, pledged to each other's defense, protecting our citizens and interests, keeping North Americans and Europeans safe from our common adversaries," the king said.

Call to support Ukraine

Charles III paid special attention to the war in Ukraine. He drew a parallel with the events of September 11, 2001. At that time, NATO invoked Article 5 on collective defense for the first time. According to the king, the world now needs the same unity.

The monarch emphasized to lawmakers: "That same, unyielding resolve is needed for the defense of Ukraine and her most courageous people – in order to secure a truly just and lasting peace."

Reaction to the shooting in Washington

The speech did not pass without mentioning current threats within the United States. Recently, the White House Correspondents' Dinner turned into chaos due to a shooting.

Charles III called for unity despite internal disagreements: "Whatever our differences, whatever disagreements we may have, we stand united in our commitment to uphold democracy, to protect all our people from harm, and to salute the courage of those who daily risk their lives in the service of our countries."

Climate crisis and future generations

The monarch warned politicians against isolationism. He called not to become "inward-looking." In addition to military threats, the king reminded us of the environmental catastrophe, which is a challenge for all humanity.

"As we look toward the next 250 years, we must also reflect on our shared responsibility to safeguard nature, our most precious and irreplaceable asset," he concluded.

What else is known about the king's visit to the United States

Trump, in the first minutes of his meeting with Charles III, likely made an alarming statement about the plans of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Professional lip reader Nicola Hickling deciphered the conversation between Trump and the king.

It also became known that the meeting between King Charles III and Donald Trump will be held behind closed doors to avoid scandals. The closed format of the meeting in the Oval Office was insisted on by British officials.

On the second day of the visit, April 29, many events and ceremonies are planned for the British monarchs. For example, the royal couple will take part in a ceremony reviewing 300 United States servicemen, at which nearly 500 members of the Armed Forces of the United States will be present.
