Italy takes lead in G7 Ambassadors' Ukraine Support Group
Italy has taken over the leadership of the Group of G7 Ambassadors supporting Ukraine in implementing reforms, according to the Italian Presidency of the G7 Ambassadors’ Support Group in Kyiv.
"The Embassy of Italy in Ukraine proudly takes over the chairmanship of the Group of Ambassadors G7 in support of Ukraine for 2024. Sincere thanks to the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine for the excellent chairmanship of this Group in 2023. We remain committed to close cooperation with Ukraine in the field of reforms and countering Russian aggression," the post says.
Italy has taken over the G7 presidency, succeeding Japan in this role. The Group of Seven includes the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan, as well as the European Union as a collective entity.
Italy's assistance to Ukraine
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Italy has provided Ukraine with seven packages of military assistance.
Recently, Italy's Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, announced Italy's intention to provide Ukraine with an eighth package of military aid. The country is now considering the equipment that can be transferred to Kyiv.
In December, the Italian government adopted a resolution allowing the country to provide military support to Ukraine until the end of 2024. This decision is now pending approval by the country's parliament.
