Striking Russian warships immediately before the launch of sea-based Kalibr missiles is extremely difficult, as the available window is limited to just a few hours, Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said.
Only a few hours available
Commenting on the possibility of striking Russian missile carriers before Kalibr launches, Pletenchuk noted that the time window for such actions is very limited.
According to him, in most cases Russians use submarines for launches, which are highly stealthy. Because of this, determining the exact launch area of the missile is extremely difficult.
Main Kalibr carriers are submarines
The Navy spokesperson explained that striking such targets requires continuous operations in the potential launch area, including aviation involvement. At the same time, he stressed that any ship or submarine eventually returns to its base.
It was at such a moment that a Russian submarine carrying Kalibr missiles was struck in Novorossiysk in December 2025.
Pleteneсhk emphasized that even in complex enemy systems, there are vulnerable points that Ukraine's Defense Forces exploit at the right moment.
No Russian fleet activity currently recorded
According to the Navy representative, at present, no deployments or use of Russian warships and submarines are being observed.
"Russian aviation, unfortunately, is active as always. And most likely, from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, the Russians once again used a ballistic missile," Pletenchuk said.
Situation around Crimean Bridge
The spokesperson also noted that, due to storms, the defensive structures built by Russian forces around the Crimean Bridge are periodically destroyed.
"One day we will definitely clear these waters of all this debris," Pletenchuk stressed.
Earlier, Pletenchuk said that Russia launches Kalibr cruise missiles from Black Sea in limited numbers due to technical difficulties and unfavorable weather conditions. The effectiveness of these missiles has decreased compared to the beginning of the full-scale invasion.
