Houthis fired missiles towards ship off coast of Yemen
Yemen's Houthi rebels have fired missiles in the area where a maritime vessel was passing near the country's coast. Fortunately, there were no casualties or damage reported, reports Reuters.
The agency referred to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) for its report. Early in the morning on March 15, the agency reported that missiles passed near a vessel 50 nautical miles (93 kilometers) southwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen.
"The Master reported two missiles flying over the vessel and heard two loud blasts in the distance," the UKMTO advisory note said, citing the vessel's commanding officer.
The note also stated that the vessel did not sustain any damage, and the crew was safe.
"The vessel is proceeding to its next port of call. Authorities are investigating," the statement said.
Attacks by Yemeni Houthis
Since November 2023, Yemen's Houthi rebels have been regularly attacking commercial ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea using drones, cruise, and ballistic missiles. The first attacks began immediately after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.
In response to numerous attacks, on January 12, the US and UK launched rocket attacks for the first time on Houthi military targets in Yemen. Since then, the Western coalition has regularly struck Houthi military targets in Yemen, but the terrorists continue to attack ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
In particular, on March 12, the Italian destroyer Duilio destroyed two Houthi drones in the Red Sea as part of its self-defense measures.
On the same day, the Houthis launched rockets at the container ship Pinocchio in the Red Sea. It was sailing under the flag of Liberia and belonged to the Singapore-registered company OM-MAR 5 INC.
On March 14, the US military successfully detected and destroyed four drones and one surface-to-air missile launched by Yemeni Houthis.
