Following the shooting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, near the Israeli embassy on Sunday, law enforcement and ambulance vehicles arrived at the scene in the Rabiah district.
Police urged residents to stay indoors as security services conducted a manhunt, a Western media source in the security services reported.
According to witnesses, Jordanian police cordoned off the area near the Israeli embassy.
Later, a security service source told Reuters that the armed man was shot dead, and three police officers were injured after the shooting incident near the Israeli embassy ended.
The identity of the attacker has not been clarified.
Anti-Israel protests in Jordan
Protests and demonstrations against Israel are not uncommon near the Israeli embassy in Jordan.
A significant portion of Jordan's 12 million citizens are of Palestinian origin. According to Western media, they or their parents were either expelled or fled to Jordan during the conflicts surrounding the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.
"Jordan's peace treaty with Israel is unpopular among many citizens who see normalization of relations as betraying the rights of their Palestinian compatriots," Reuters reported.
In the fall of last year, Jordan ordered its ambassador to return from Israel. This decision followed the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launching a ground operation in the Gaza Strip in response to a large-scale Hamas attack on Israeli territory on October 7, 2023.
In September, an armed Jordanian killed three Israelis at the Allenby Bridge border crossing in the West Bank. Following the attack, Israeli security forces neutralized the assailant.
