Germany to strengthen support for Ukraine in war against Russia - Baerbock
Germany will strengthen its support for Ukraine at both the EU and NATO levels, states the German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock according to Tages Schau.
She promised Ukraine further support.
"It is clear that in the foreseeable future, Ukraine will strengthen the EU, our EU," the politician said.
At the same time, she emphasized that it is "in our own geopolitical interests that Ukraine joins the European Union."
"After Russia's attack in February 2022, horrific footage has been coming from Ukraine for more than 650 days. That is why we will not only continue our support for Ukraine but also strengthen it. In the EU and also in NATO," she said.
Germany wants to double aid to Ukraine
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that the country intends to double its military aid to Ukraine in 2024. Instead of the 4 billion euros previously allocated in the federal budget, it is planned to spend 8 billion euros.
Later, journalists reviewed the draft German federal budget for 2024, which includes a doubling of military aid to Ukraine to 8 billion euros.
Then Reuters wrote that in Germany, the ruling coalition is trying to patch a huge hole in the budget, which has caused a delay in defense aid for Ukraine next year, totaling 8 billion euros.
