Kyiv heard explosions on the evening of October 18. The capital was placed on air-raid alert due to a missile threat and a red-level warning. The Ukrainian Air Force and the Kyiv City Military Administration urged residents to take shelter.

The Air Force warned of a missile heading toward Kyiv. The city heard explosions shortly afterward.

The Kyiv City Military Administration urged residents to go to the nearest shelters immediately and stay there until the all-clear.

Preliminary reports indicated a medical center building in the Desnianskyi district and a non-residential building in the Dniprovskyi district came under attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said emergency services were heading to the sites.

Later, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that one person was killed in this latest Russian assault on the capital. Two others were injured and receiving medical assistance.

Russia is intensifying its attacks on Ukraine, particularly on its energy infrastructure. In the week after US President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire," Russian forces attacked Ukraine's energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times. Tens of thousands of households were left without electricity. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Moscow was seeking to plunge Ukraine into a blackout.

The previous night, on October 18, Russia launched an Iskander-M missile and 180 drones at Ukraine, including 26 jet-powered Shahed drones. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 152 drones, but dozens of strikes were recorded.
