The German army has asked major companies to help transport soldiers and military equipment to NATO’s eastern border in the event of a possible Russian attack, Handelsblatt reports.

According to the outlet, the Bundeswehr has reached out to firms including defense giant Rheinmetall, airline group Lufthansa, and the state-owned rail operator Deutsche Bahn.

These companies could assist in moving troops, ammunition, and military hardware in case of a Russian attack on NATO territory. The outlet's sources also report that discussions are underway about whether Lufthansa's flight school could take over basic training for fighter pilots.

Handelsblatt noted that in crisis regions, the army largely relies on commercial transport services.

Putin is preparing for war with NATO

Recently, the Bundeswehr warned that Russian authorities are preparing for a large-scale war against NATO. It is believed that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be planning to use force to achieve his objectives.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has also stated that Russia could launch a new attack within a few years, adding that Lithuania may have four to five years to prepare.

Earlier, it was reported that large-scale exercises simulating a potential Russian attack on NATO countries will be held in Hamburg, Germany, this fall. The drills will focus on rapidly deploying allied forces in the event of war with Russia.
