German Taurus for Ukraine: UK offers Scholz way out of dilemma, but no result yet
The UK offered Germany the purchase of Taurus long-range cruise missiles, which the Ukrainian side has been asking Berlin for a long time, but without a positive result, reports Handelsblatt.
It is reported that London, in turn, plans to provide Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow missiles.
The German media notes that an appropriate way out of the dilemma for Berlin regarding the German Taurus missiles has been discussed and considered with the British side for several weeks, and a corresponding proposal has been sent. Diplomats and government officials told journalists about this, in particular.
"For months, a fierce dispute has raged over the delivery of German cruise missiles to Ukraine. Now, a proposal from the British is on the table that could help the Chancellor (Olaf Scholz - ed.) out of a tight spot," the article says.
Taurus for Ukraine
Ukraine previously requested long-range Taurus missiles from Germany, which are capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers, as recently as last year. At the same time, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposed such an idea. He worries that with the help of such weapons, Ukraine can launch missile strikes on the territory of Russia.
The other day, the Christian Democratic Union decided to bring the question of transferring Taurus to Ukraine to the Bundestag , but the project was not supported .
It was also previously reported that the German company Taurus Systems GmbH is ready to quickly replenish Germany's long-range missiles in the event of their delivery to Ukraine.
