Russian troops are concentrating their forces on the Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivka directions, but active operations by the Ukrainian Armed Forces are disrupting the enemy’s plans, Major General Oleksandr Komarenko, Head of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff, states in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

"The situation (on the front – ed.) is difficult, of course, but under control. We are doing everything we can — and even a bit more — to hold back and destroy the enemy. The hardest areas remain the Pokrovsk and Oleksandrivka directions," Komarenko said.

According to him, Ukrainian forces are gradually managing to stabilize the situation through active operations. Currently, the number of enemy attacks in the Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad areas has somewhat decreased due to the redeployment of their troops toward the Oleksandrivka direction.

"For them, the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Zaporizhzhia directions will remain priorities. These are the axes where they are concentrating their main efforts to achieve the objectives they have set for themselves," added the Head of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff.

He also noted that the Russian forces aim to gain full control over Luhansk and Donetsk regions, as well as to secure maximum advances in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

"These are their plans, and their actions to implement them will continue," Komarenko concluded.

Situation on the front

Recently, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi summarized the operations of the Defense Forces, noting that Ukrainian forces have recaptured more territory than Russia has been able to seize during the same period.

It was also reported on March 8 that in the northern part of the Kharkiv region, Russian forces are currently on a "cautious pause."
