More regained than lost: Ukraine's army chief sums up winter battlefield results

In February this year Defense Forces restored control over a larger territory than Russian troops managed to capture, according to the statement of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
According to Syrskyi, total losses of Russian forces over the three winter months amount to about 92,850 servicemen killed and wounded, or 1,031 persons per day.
Russians also lost:
- 322 tanks;
- 430 combat armored vehicles;
- 2,967 artillery systems;
- 110 multiple launch rocket systems;
- 55 air defense systems;
- 5 aircraft;
- 1 helicopter;
- 65,269 operational-tactical level unmanned aerial vehicles;
- 1 ship and 1 submarine;
- 11,927 units of automotive equipment;
- 65 units of special equipment.
"During the three winter months, we eliminated more enemy soldiers than enemy recruited into its ranks," the commander-in-chief said.
He emphasized that in February 2026, for the first time since the Kursk offensive operation, the Defense Forces of Ukraine restored control over a larger territory than the enemy managed to capture.
Offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in south
Recently, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reported the deoccupation of approximately 300 square kilometers of territory in the south of the country.
It also became known about the active actions of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Oleksandrivka direction aimed at restraining the advance of Russian forces.
And on February 23, Commander in Chief of Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that during offensive operations in south Ukrainian military liberated eight settlements and about 400 square kilometers of territory.
