The EU plans to allocate additional funds to Ukraine, on top of the €153 million already earmarked for 2026. New aid tranches will be announced soon, states European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

According to Lahbib, the €153 million is only the first allocation of funds for the current year. This amount serves as the baseline from which further support will begin.

"We will certainly announce other tranches later on. I'm sure we will do so soon, considering the needs and the harsh winter you are going through. I'm quite confident that we will allocate more funding," emphasized Adja Lyabib.

She added that the need for additional funding is driven by the difficult winter period and the strikes on critical infrastructure. The EU recognizes the critical nature of the situation and is preparing the next decisions on providing financial resources.

Aid to Ukraine and reconstruction

Earlier, the European Union identified the main priority for the restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector and infrastructure. Despite the difficult situation, the EU positively assessed how Ukraine is meeting the necessary conditions for receiving further financial support, noting the absence of critical issues.

At the same time, the government and international partners are discussing the risks of reduced humanitarian aid in 2026. In particular, potential cuts in US support and the measures Ukraine is taking to mitigate these effects are being analyzed.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the volume of support has remained substantial — over €4.7 billion has been allocated solely for Ukraine’s humanitarian needs.
