Ukraine and Moldova have demonstrated significant progress in implementing key reforms despite the difficult conditions both countries are facing. Both states are ready for the official opening of all negotiation clusters, stated a European Commission spokesperson in a comment to RBC-Ukraine.
"It is clear that both Moldova and Ukraine are committed to their EU accession path. They have advanced in key reforms under very challenging conditions and have made significant progress. Both countries have completed the technical work required to open the negotiation clusters in record time," he stressed.
According to him, the European Commission’s position is clear: Ukraine and Moldova have completed the necessary steps and are ready for the official opening of all negotiation clusters.
The spokesperson added that the Commission has completed all preparatory work, and the decision now rests with the Council. He also noted that the Commission stands ready to support the European Council if needed.
The European Commission spokesperson said that member states should move forward on this issue and allow both countries to continue their work officially.
Ukraine’s EU accession
Recently, Germany and France proposed a "light" membership format for Ukraine. It includes certain "symbolic" benefits and a mutual defense clause, but would not grant Kyiv voting rights.
In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha firmly rejected the possibility of phased membership, stressing that Ukraine is rapidly fulfilling all requirements for full integration.
At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka said that Ukraine is ready to temporarily give up certain economic benefits in the EU. According to him, such a step would help speed up accession and ease disputes with neighboring countries.
